N OTHING could have been morejoyous in anticipation to onewho had never seen the mountainsthan nine da\s in camp in theheart of the Canadian Rockies, but whileone may anticipate, may pore over mapsand pictures and read vivid descriptionsof mountain scenery all this does not pre-pare for the reality. Xor is it sufficient tosee the mountains from the window of anobservation car or the verandah of amountain hotel. One must, as Dr. Long-staff says, come to grips with the peaksthemselves. The novice and the experiencedclimber alike were given an opportunityto come to grips when the sixah annualcamp of the Alpine Club of Canada washeld from July 26th to August 4th in themeadow forming the hanging valley di-rectly above Sherbrooke Lake.
