Coloured X-ray of a corticosteroid drug being injected into the shoulder of a 51 year old male patient to treat adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder). Adhesive capsulitis is an inflammation and stiffening of the shoulder capsule. This procedure, known as shoulder distension, involves the injection of local anaesthetic and corticosteroid into the shoulder joint before it is injected with air and saline solution to stretch and release the joint capsule.
