Portrait of Mr Charles & Mrs Letitia Becker at the time of the Becker trial, Charles Becker ( 1870 – July 30, 1915) was a lieutenant in the New York City Police Department when he was executed for the first-degree murder of the Manhattan gambler Herman Rosenthal in 1912 , Becker himself was allegedly making deals with the criminal fraternity and had organised four men to kill Rosenthal who had made press allegations about the illegal deals done by Becker. Becker's death in the electric chair took 9 minutes and was described as the clumsiest execution in the history of 'Sing Sing'
