In the year 1845he contracted for thematerial and stone-work of St. Johnschurch, on Greenstreet, and this jobbeing soon satisfactorily disposed of, Mr. At-temeyer increased his facilities for larger opera-tions, and became at once a reputable contractor,builder and manager. Among other buildings, toonumerous to be mentioned here, reference must bemade to the sub-structures of the Carlisle buildings,Burnet house, Jewish synagogue, numerous build-ings on Pearl and other streets, and the house of. refuge at Camp Washington. The latter is one ofthe most magnificent stone structures, and in sub-stantiality and finish is comparable with the bestknown edifices in the State. Having done his workwell, established a splendid reputation, and accumu-lated a hundred thousand dollars, Mr. Attemeyerretired from business. To St. Bernard, north ofCincinnati, he removed some sixteen years agowhere, with his agedwife and children, heis now resting in theenjoyment of the goodthings of earth. ADemocrat on Stateand National con-troversies, Mr. Atte-meyer cares not forparty restrictions orpiejudices in local af-fairs, arid in the town-ship, county andcorporation elections,always votes for thebest man. In religion, as inpolitics, he is alwaysliberal with those whodo not entirely agreewith him; and devot-edly attached to theCatholic church, he isa defender of thatfaith with a kindly re-gard for the opinionsof his neigh
