Caption: Photograph 111-SC-34331 taken by Reed in 1919 shows a broken propeller from a military aircraft during World War I. The propeller breakage occurred due to the falling out of putty from the holes, where nails were used to hold laminations during construction. With empty holes, oil entered and rotted the fiber leading to the break. This image is classified under G 482.
