The cattle in the valley are :yaks, 400, of which 200 carry loads. In the winter 100 remain in Lachen, and300 go over into Tibet. Cattle 40, ponies 100, goats 30. Agriculture is nearlyunknown, the people devote themselves practically to their yaks and cattle. Theygrow, however, potatoes, turnips, and a little buckwheat.
