Servant of Pont-Audemer. Her bonnet is similar to that of Pont l'Eveque, but the back is folded, perhaps a personal twist of the wearer. The artist has drawn the maid at his inn, a smart girl with a good figure. The town name should be written Pont-Eau-de-Mer. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
