Carnations have advanced in price, due to a great amount of funeral work, which has been in evidence for some days. January 19 and 21 the call for white varieties was particularly heavy, out of all proportion to the supply. Orchids are in plenty and appear to clean up fairly well, though they drag at times. The price range is from 20 cents to 50 cents, the latter figure cov- ering only the best. Gardenias are plentiful, but move well. Culls and inferior blooms may be had at as low as $2 per dozen, but long-stemmed stock, with perfect flower heads, brings as high as $9. There is a limited supply of bulbous flowers. A few freesias, narcissi and tulips are arriving, and move quickly, but there is no sign of an influx such as was wont to occur in former years. This condition, of course, tends to hold up the values of other flowers. Sweet peas are coming in greater quantity, although there is little change in the quality, short-stemmed stock be- ing the rule rather than the exception.
