Iceberg in coastal waters. Icebergs form as ice cleaves from glaciers and ice shelves where they meet the sea. This iceberg has drifted into a sheltered bay in south-west Greenland, providing a resting place for a small ringed seal (centre left). Only a small proportion of an iceberg is visible above the surface of the water. As they melt, icebergs can form a wide variety of shapes.
