Chimpanzee skull. Coloured X-ray of a side view of a chimpanzee's (Pan troglodytes) skull. The cranium (upper right) is considerably smaller than in humans. It consists of many spongy bones (centre right) fused at sutures. A prominent brow ridge (upper left) is present above the eyes. The large lower jawbone (mandible, lower left) contains flat molar teeth and is attached to powerful chewing muscles.
