Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German-Swiss-US physicist. In 1901, whilst employed at the Patent Office in Berne, Switzerland, he began independent work on physics problems. In 1905 he published papers on the photoelectric effect (which earned him the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics) and, most significantly, the special theory of relativity, which includes his famous mass-energy equation. In 1915 the General Theory of Relativity was published. In 1933, Einstein emigrated to the USA to work on a theory to unify gravity & electromagnetism. Photo taken in 1935.
