They are both built into the outside of the east wall ofthe Chancel, one on either side of the modern window, andwhich, for the sake of distinction, will be here described asNo. 1 stone, and No. 2 stone. No. 1 stone, showing Christ seated giving the Benediction,is on the south side of the window, and was found in 1883,during extensive alterations to the Church, having beenre-used as an ordinary walling stone in the foundations. Itwas afterwards built into the wall in a corresponding positionto No. 2 stone, which latter represents the Virgin and Childenthroned, with the Hand of God above, directed towardsthem, and was probably inserted in the wall when it wasbuilt in Perpendicular times. Both are made of purplecoloured Hardwick stone from the famous old quarry nearTavistock, b
