The soil for Turnips should be rich and mellow. For an early crop, sow early in the spring, in drills about a foot apart, or broadcast and thin out. For a general crop, sow from the first of July to the last of August, in drills eighteen t twenty inches apart, and thin out the plants to 8 or 10 inches. To destroy the fly, which is very destructive to the turnip crop, use " Hammond's Slug »; Sow an abundance of seed, aud thin out. It is of a handsome appearance, somewhat flattened, white, with purple top: flesh, snow- white, flue grained, and delicate flavor. 5c pkt., 10c oz., 25c M lb., 60c lb. Purple Top White Globe. A variety of de- cided merit. Of globular shape, very hand- some, and of superior quality, either for the table or stock.
