The Nacoochee Indian Mound was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This area was inhabited by people of the Mississippian culture. The mound was formerly excavated in 1915 by a team lead by Frederick Webb Hodge and George H. Pepper , and the remains of 75 humans was discovered. The mound was reconstructed and the gazebo later added by a private owner.
