Robot scorpion. Computer artwork of a robot design based on that of a scorpion. Future robot designs will cover a wide range of sizes and uses. Some of the possibilities include microscopic robots (the so-called nanorobots) to manipulate an environment or treat medical disorders. Insect-sized robots could be used by the military for surveillance and destruction of targets. Here, the glowing eyes and sting of the 'scorpion' could be a type of sensory device, communications device, or weapon. Another use for scorpion robots could be to control pests that destroy crops.
