Parents starting their roof-top protest and occupation against the planned demolition of Lewisham Bridge Primary School
Parents starting their roof-top protest against the demolition of Lewisham Bridge Primary School. Lewisham council plan to demolish this Grade II-listed Victorian school and replace it with a new school for 3-16 year olds. Meaning that two new school, both upper and lower will be built on the same footprint as Lewisham Bridge now occupies. The Shool currently enjoys a large well designed play area which will be lost if the new schools are built. In addition it will be run by a private company called The Leathersellers' Company who already run two secondary school in Lewisham. The scholl currenty stands empty as the pupils are daily bussed to the Mornington Centre in New Cross at a cost of £900 a day. The building has recently been grade II listed by English Heritage. Parents and Teachers are now fighting to save the school from bulldozers
