To make a poor farm profitable without investingmore than the original cost of the land is a subject thathas had the most careful thought and study. Farm pub-lications, agricultural books and experimental station re-ports are filled with good advice furnishing statistics,formulas and theories that are often found valuable. There seems to be a lack of information, however,about many of the little things one should know regard-ing of seed, what is best for the planteach day as it struggles between life and death for itsexistence, if it fails to become thoroughly established anddoes not reach maturity the reason for such failure; andwhen it does grow to perfection the reason for suchgrowth, except in a general way without furnishing anydefinite knowledge from which to base su^^h opinions.
