In 1831 five missionaries were sent by the GeneralAssembly to Pennsylvania, in response to a petitionfrom certain members of the Presbyterian Church inthe western part of that State. Under their ministry arevival hardly less remarkable than that of 1800 waskindled, many congregations grew up ; Pennsylvania THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. 469 Presbytery was organized in 1832 and PennsylvaniaSynod in 1838.
