ROYAL ARCADE, NEWCASTLE,—NORTHUMBERLAND. During the present century, public Arcades have been erected in the metropolis andseveral of the principal towns of the kingdom ; but in few instances have the useful andornamental been so admirably combined, as in the subject of this plate. Whether weregard the architecture of the principal front, or the chaste and elegant decorations of theinterior, its claims to distinction are admitted by all who have visited the similar estab-lishments of other towns. The Royal Arcade of Newcastle occupies a commanding situation near the centre ofthe town, and facing the eastern extremity of Mosley street, on the line of the great northroad from London to Edinburgh. It here presents an imposing front of finely polishedstone-work, 94 feet in length, and Jh feet high. The basement story is of Grecian Doric.
