Demolition of Southwark Towers beside London Bridge Railway Station. Southwark, London
Demolition of Southwark Towers beside London Bridge Railway Station. Southwark, London. Southwark Towers was a mid rise building at 32 London Bridge Street near London Bridge station, in Southwark, London. It was 100 metres tall and had 25 floors and stood directly over London Bridge station. Completed in 1976, little of the building remains, as it is all under demolition to make way for The Shard, which at 310 meters will be the tallest building in the United Kingdom. The building was formerly occupied by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the world's largest professional services firm. Despite a modern-looking and lavish reception area, the building and its decorations became dated. Lifts in the building were slow and struggled to cope with traffic during peak hours. Nevertheless, some wings of the upper floors enjoyed spectacular views of Tower Bridge and the City. The building's tenants have now moved to nearby sites in Union Street and Hay's Galleria.
