Antoine Laurent Lavoisier (1743-1794) French chemist, discovered oxygen. Lavoisier investigating respiration. He discovered the interchange of gases in the lungs, and proved that carbon dioxide and water are the normal products of breathing. Based on a picture by Madame Lavoisier (shown right) taking notes.
