Parkerfor troops, and was the first regiment to reach andrepoi-t at Harrisburg. Col. Grubb was afterwardcolonel of 37th New York volunteers, at the siege ofPetersburg. Gen. Grubb was for a number of yearscaptain of the First Troop, Philadelphia citycavaliy,and at the same time colonel of the 6th regiment,national guards of New Jersey. He is an extensivemine owner in Pennsylvania and Virginia. In 1888he was a candidate for governor of New Jersey, be-ing defeated by Leon Abbett, democrat. In 1889President Harrison appointed him U. S. minister toSpain, where he assisted in negotiating the Reci-procity Treaty between the United States and Spain,and also succeeded in getting the Spanish govern-ment to remove the restriction upon the importationof American pork into m(M^ OF AMERICAN BIOGRAPHY. 191
