As the resistant vines, notably the Amer-ican varieties, are more vigorous and growmore rapidly than the European or other^^°-^ non-resistant varieties, a dispro])ortion may arise between the two plants, which will make it impossible or im-practicable to unite them; this, with the chance of both cuttings notgrowing, argues strongly in favor of planting rooted vines instead ofcuttings, which thus assures the success of the graft.
