Discipline. The College has full control of its students so far as con-cerns their attendance upon lectures in the courses providedby the College, and (2) their admission to the UniversityExaminations. No student of the College will be received bythe University for examination without a certificate from theCollege that he has complied with its Calendar for 1902—1903- 169 Student Societies. Various societies and associations, both of young men andof young women, have been organized for the promotion ofChristian effort, social intercourse, literary and scientificactivity. The Young Mens Christian Association has abuilding especially devoted to its purposes, in which a devo-tional meeting is held every Thursday, and a public meetingevery Sunday, at which latter addresses are delivered by -prominent Christian workers. There is also a Young WomensChristian Association, which meets weekly. The Literary andScientific Society, whose membership is made up of malestudents, holds weekly meetings for discussion, the readingof essays, etc. This society furnishes a well-equipped reading-room for the use of students. The Womens Literary Societyhas similar aims and methods. Besides the above, there areseveral associations for the encouragement of special branchesof study.
