A12 Utrechtsebaan, The Hague, The Netherlands. Saturday 3 February, 2024. The police removed 1,000 climate activists from the A12 in The Hague and transferred them to the ADO football stadium in The Hague, where they were released. The motorway was blocked in both directions by some climate activists from Extinction Rebellion from 1 , although two water canons were present, they were not used. It was the first blockade of the A12 in four-months. Last year, Extinction Rebellion blocked the A12 several dozen times. Their actions were suspended on October 10. The House of Representatives then adopted a motion urging the phasing out of subsidies to the fossil industry. Thou nothing came of this, as with previous blockade. Outgoing Climate Minister Jetten said he would make suggestions to the next cabinet on phasing out subsidies. Photo caption.
