Labyrinthodon

Labyrinthodon leaving footprints in sandy mud. These tracks are found in Triassic Period sandstones throughout the world. The trace fossil was initially given its own name, Cheirotherium, because no one was certain what animal was making it. Illustration from Louis Figuier's The World Before the Deluge, 1867 American edition.
