Chicago, Illinois, USA. The Cortland Street Bridge on a summer afternoon on the city's near northwest side. The drawbridge was built in 1901 and spans the North Branch of the Chicago River and was opened to traffic in 1902. And, traffice includes bicycles and pedestrians in additon to motor vehicles with bkes having a designated lane for travel in each direction. The bridge was designated as an ASCE Civil Engineering Landmark and is an official Chicago Landmark as well.
