Corse says: GeneralHoward sent a brigade from Second division, Fifteenth-Corps, commanded by Colonel Fowler which arrived onthe cars about noon of the 11th and was placed in campready for any emergency. General Sherman arrived onthe 12th and his array encamped within three miles ofRome. On the 13th, by order of General Sherman, Imoved my division, augmented by Colonel Fowlersbrigade and Colonel Spencers regiment of cavalry,across the Etowah and with Colonel Hurlbuts brigade The Pursuit of Hood. 131. CAPTAIN KELLOGG M. BURNHAM, COMPANY A. 1900, aged 70. Born February 1, 1830, in Berlin, Ohio. Came to Lake county,Indiana, in 1853, and it has ever since been his home. His grand-father, Joseph Burnham, was a captain in the war of 1812, and hisgrandfather on his mothers side, was Rev. John Norton, also inthat war. They were all Scotch Presbyterians of the straitestsect. He says in a letter: I was married in 1855 to EuniceWheeler, a sister of Colonel John Wheeler, of the 20th Indiana. Wewere only permitted to rear one son to manhood, Harry, who wasborn in 1865, and died in September, 1897. My wife died in 1881,and now at 70 years, I am traveling the road alone. On page 50will be found an account of his sickness. He continued faithfully inthe service for another year, but was compelled to resign February29, 1864.
