PHILIPPINE SEA (March 14, 2019) A Marine assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion gives a hand signal that they are ready approach an inert mine shape in order to assist the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9) as the ship conducts a mine hunting training exercise. Pioneer, part of Mine Countermeasure Squadron 7, is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platform for contingency operations.
