Glossy winter leaves of hybrid Oleaster Elaeagnus ebbingei also known as Elaeagnus submacrophylla, growing on Cornwall beach sand dunes.
Also somewhat erroneously known as the Wild Olive, this particular specimen is shown growing in sand dunes which are a bit parched of water, hence the slightly discoloured water stressed leaves. During better wet periods of the year the leaves are a good solid green colour. This specimen is believed to be the hybrid E. ebbingei, while the true form of Oleaster / Elaeagnus angustifolia has more powdery-silver leaves, sometimes narrower.
