Pluto and Charon, illustration. This is the Pluto system seen from the surface of one of the candidate moons that had been discovered in 2005 (the moons were subsequently named Nix and Hydra). Pluto is the large disk at centre right. Charon, the system's only confirmed moon, is the smaller disk to the right of Pluto. The other candidate moon is the bright dot at far left.
