The citizens of Buffalo, in March, i8pp, raised by popular subscrip-tion the sum of $1,750,000, and because of this display of interest andthe belief in their ability to finance and produce a successful Exposition,Congress became convinced that the work would be well done anddesignated Buffalo as the most desirable locatio?i, and accordinglyassisted with an appropriation of $500,000.
