The duration ofthe owners title is arbitrarily fixed by law. The bill provides that the new Court shall make a findingboth of facts and of law, and that appeals to the Supreme Courtshall be taken on questions of law only, thus very much simpli-fying the cases and making it possible to secure final decisionsin a reasonable time. An Elevating; Ferry Steamer.—The accompanying illustra-tions, from the London Engineer, show a peculiar steam ferry-boat, designed for the River Clyde at Glasgow by W. Simons& Company, ship-builders, at Renfrew, Scotland. In this case, instead of providing movable landing stages to meet the riseand fall of the tide, the deck of the feriy-boat itself is a movableplatform carried on six hydraulic elevators, by which it can beraised or depressed as required. The boat itself is a double-ender 150 ft. long, 55 ft. extreme breadth, 17 ft. 6 in. depth of. CROSS SECTION SNCWIHO PLATFORM tOWLRCD. hull, and having a draft of water of 12 ft. 6 in. It is driven bytwin screws, propelled by two sets of triple-expansion enginesof the ordinary type. Each end of the boat is provided withtwin screws and a rudder, and the engines can be coupled toeither end as desired. On each end of the main deck a cabin isprovided, and the entire space between these cabins is filled upby the movable deck, which has a rise o( 25 ft. altogether. Thelandmg is made at the side. The illustrations show cross-sec-tions of the boat with the deck lowered for high tide and raisedfor low tide. A slight modification of the present design wouldadapt the boat equally well for an end landing, and, in fact, theplan permits of almost any change to suit local circumstances.
