Testing the first torpedo, 1805. Artwork showing the destruction of the ship Dorothee by the first torpedo. The torpedo was tested in the Bay of Walmer on the coast of Kent, UK. The torpedo was invented by Robert Foulton and tested on 15th October 1805, in front of the Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger. This image was published in The Picture Magazine, volume 111, in 1894.
