Firth, resident engineer and actingsuperintendent, but Colonel Chanute was soon appointed superintendent ofthe Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston railroad, and Major Firth receivedan appointment as chief engineer of the Atchison & Nebraska railroad. Al-though Major Firth was not yet twenty-five years of age, he manifestedability of one twice his years. E. B. Couch was appointed cashier, andHenrv Deitz, supply agent, both excellent appointments.
