His political affiliations were with theDemocratic party, in whose councils he was prom-inent, and by whom he was once offered the nom-ination for mayor, which he declined. On April 24, 1854, Mr. Needham was marriedto Ellen Donavan, of Fethard, County Tipperary,Ireland, who for twenty-three years after her hus-bands death carried on the business. She diedJuly 30, 1899. In 1897 she had erected the finestmonument in St. Patricks cemetery. Twelve chil-dren were born to this couple, three of whom only.
