Medieval buildings in Rue de la Charpenterie in the old quarter of the city of Orleans, the capital of the Loiret department and of the Centre-Val de Loire region in France. It is about 130 km (80 miles) southwest of Paris. Orleans was a very wealthy wool destination, and a lot of rich wool merchants lived in the city. The Siege of Orleans in 1428-1429, marked a turning point in the Hundred Years' War. Joan of Arc made her reputation here by lifting the siege nine days after she arrived.
