Cylinder enema with pump action (assembled) dating from around 1850, England. Enema procedures involve the evacuation of the lower intestines by the introduction of fluids into the rectum and colon through the anus. This was a common procedure in the nineteenth century for the treatment of general ailments and constipation. This example is made from steel, brass, and ivory and has an attractive floral decoration.
