Elevated Railway has recentlycompleted a timber treating plant at the companysSouth Boston yard which is the first pressure instal-lation to be built by any street railway in the UnitedStates, and which embodies a number of interestingfeatures in design in comparison with ordinary prac-tice. The company has usedcreosoted ties and lumber extensively during the pastfive years, and for some time the lumber problem ofthe road has been in charge of the writer, under whosedirection the plant has been established. The designingengineer is Grant B. Shipley, of Pittsburgh, Pa., whosepatents are embodied in the plans and specifications forthe work.
