The large species of African elephants have been so longand so relentlessly pursued by the murderous ivory-hunters,both white and black, that now it is almost an impossibletask to find a full-grown bull, or to find one with a pair oftusks even approaching six feet in length. Possibly thespecies can be perpetuated by the young stock, but all ex-perienced stock-breeders surely will regard it as very unlikely.
