This image of young child investigating the contents of a bucket of river water appeared in “Welllington’s Photographic Handbook” early in the 20th century. JBB Wellington was an English scientist and photographer. His research included improvements in emulsions, developers and dry collodion the late 20th century digital imaging began replacing analogue optical systems with computational photography. This included image capture and processing techniques with computations using machine learning, algorithms and artificial first camera phone came in 2000 and was followed by the much improved iPhone in 2007. This formed the basis for Smartphones. These have their limitations but give excellent results for most general uses. Smartphones have revolutionised photography. Through all these changes the ideas and the artistic input still come from the photographer.
