The overflow of Swithland Reservoir near Loughborough in Leicestershire taken in early March 2012. At the end of winter reservoir levels in the UK are normally full and often overflowing the spillway. Following two dry winters and summers many reservoirs are well down with a hosepipe ban being introduced in many eastern areas. It is the earliest a hosepipe ban has ever been introduced in the UK. Climate change modelling predicts the south and east of the UK will get progressively drier.
