A basket-hilted sabre, South German, ca. 1600. Lightly curved, single-edged blade, the lower third double-edged, with a struck smith's mark (cross) on one side. The conically flaring quillons with small pommels, the basket hilt with thumb ring, both with remnants of engraving and decorative notches. The replaced leather-covered grip with wire winding and a square pommel on top. Acid-cleaned.
