Columbus ship replicas, circa 1905, in Jackson Park, Chicago, USA. These ships (from left: the Santa Maria, Nina, and Pinta) were used by Italian explorer Christopher Columbus on his 1492 voyage to discover the Americas. Made for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893, the original replicas had sunk or been destroyed by the 1920s. In the background (centre) is La Rabida Children's Hospital (originally a replica of the Spanish La Rabida Monastery). It was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1922. At lower left are men in a hand-cycle (left) and a tricycle (right). Photograph from a 1906 Detroit Publishing Company catalogue.
