Opening of the Royal Docks in London in July 1921 - This the third and final dock of London’s Royal Docks was officially opened by King George V on July 8, 1921. It cost £ and covered 64 acres of land. Over 1,500 people were employed on the construction of the docks, twelve of which lost their lives in the process. The port was equipped with electric cranes storage areas and refrigeration facilities. Goods such as frozen meat, fruit, vegetables & grain regularly passed through the dock in the years that followed and larger ships such as the Mauretania could be accommodated
