The Waterloopbos, translated: water duct forest, is a most fascinating place of Dutch industrial heritage: A beautiful forest, featuring the rests of 30 hydro engineering test plants which were used up to the 1970s by Dutch engineers. Here they simulated hydro conditions on site of the major world harbours and coastal areas among which Lagos, Shanghai, the Dutch Delta works and many others. They tested the funnel effect of incoming tides, generated artificial waves, created obstacles to water in other words, they had an excellent playground for grown-up engineers!
