British Airship BETA (not to be confused with Beta I or Beta II) --- In 1902 trials took place of the British airship BETA , the first airship to carry wireless equipment & sometimes nicknamed 'The Baby'. Its size proved unsuccessful. It was followed by the Beta 1 (pointed at both ends) another non-rigid British experimental airship constructed by the Army Balloon Factory in 1910. Two years later the Mayfly airship followed and Beta I was reconstructed as Beta II to be used successfully by the British Army & later by the Royal Naval Air Service as HMA It ended its days in 1916
