His son is to follow in his foot-steps, and is now preparing himselfat the St. Louis College of Physi-cians and Surgeons. HEINE MARKS. Heine Marks was born December S, 1859, at Lake Providence, inKast Carroll Parish, Louisiana. He received an elementarv educa-tion in the New Orleans (La.) andMemphis (Tenn.) public schools. He studied medicine and surgeryfrom 1875 to 1878, graduating fromthe Cincinnati College of Medicineand Surgery in the last-named after receiving his diplomahe came to Missouri and commencedthe practice of his profession in , August, 1878. He was a close student, and by. MEDICINE AND SURGERY. 299 applying himself diligently to hiscalling, rapidly won his way to agood practice and the respect andesteem of his medical brethren. Hebecame a member of the St. LonisMedical Society and was Vice-Pres-ident of the same in 1893; was elect-ed one of the board of managers ofthe House of Refuge, serving for aterm of two years. He is a memberof the Missouri State Medical So-ciety^ also of the American MedicalAssociation. In 1892 he was ap-pointed superintendent and surgeonof the St. Louis City Hospital, andheld that position several years, dis-charging bis duties so efficiently asto win from his professional breth-ren special recognition and most fa-vorable comment. Since leaving theHospital Dr. Marks has devoted allof his time to his practice and
