Small slab (80 x 110 mm) of Utah picture stone, a decorative variety from the Jurassic Navajo Sandstones deposits in the South West of Utah, which are widespread in parts of the Midwestern USA. Depositional structures in sandstones like these may be formed during or shortly after deposition of the sands. Most of the colourful and decorative structures in these sandstones indicate a windblown (aeolian) origin. There exist many varieties of these sandstones and by volume their use is primarily in the building industry.
