Moss, maple leaves and maple seeds, Jizo-in (Take no Tera), Kyoto, Japan

When you exit a long tunnel of bamboo, the Jizo-in Rinzai Buddhist temple stands before you surrounded by the glory of the fall maples trees. This is a little known, not often visited temple that is eclipsed by the famous nearby Saiho-ji (Kokedera, moss temple). The Kokedera temple is entered by appointment only, and if you arrive there early take time to visit this charming little Take no Dera (bamboo temple). Both temples are located on Mount Koisan on the western outskirts of Kyoto Japan. Jizo-in has a nice Japanese garden, especially nice in the fall when the maples are in full color. You approach the temple through a tunnel of tall bamboo.
